Healthy-School-Lunches-with-Bentos-Around-the-World-Week

It’s a new year and the for the first week back to school I decided to pack lunches from around the world. I tried picking things that Zane already enjoyed eating but showing him how food comes from different countries. I would let him know each morning what country his lunch was from to help him out since he hasn’t learn very much about other countries.

I was grocery shopping late at night and trying to pull this together in a store that was full of empty shelves. I wanted to do treats in each bento that were regional, but all I could find was the pocky. But this does show you can make fun lunches with even a empty pantry.

World Bentos

Monday: Italy Bento: Pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and apple mirrored the italian flag. I included crackers, olives and raisins.

Tuesday: Japan Bento: PB&J “sushi”, mandarin oranges, sweet peppers, and Pocky sticks. I went the simple route on this bento and Zane loved the peanut butter and jelly sushi rolls.

Wednesday: Mexico Bento: Cheese quesadillas, mandarin oranges with a spanish hello, and sweet peppers. Zane has spanish every week, not his favorite weekly special, but I thought he would enjoy the !Hola on his oranges.

Thursday: American Bento: PB&J, apple, and celery. What’s more american than PB&J? Plus this is Zane’s favorite lunch.

Friday: German Bento: Little Smokies Sausages, cheese stick, apple, and pretzels.

Things I Learned

  • You can be creative even with a few simple ingredients
  • Make your own decorations, like my little flags, when you can’t find what you need
  • It’s fun to learn more about food, for you and your kids!

What was in your kids lunches this week?
