One of my favorite techniques to create great easter eggs is using tape. You can use scotch tape, packing tape, painters tape, etc. I wouldn’t recommend double sided tape, I know from experience. LOL
Supplies:
- Tape
- Hard boiled eggs
- Egg Dye (we used Paas tablets they are just so easy)
Directions:
Tape your egg (I used packing tape)
Drop your egg into the dye
Take out of the dye after 10-15 minutes
Take the tape off very carefully
Dump into a new color or you can do this before taping to get a different effect or you can leave it with the white.
Finished Egg
You will get different effect with different kinds of tape, how much you smooth out the bumps or not, how many times you change out the tape, if you cover the egg completely in tape or in stripes, and/or change colors and how long you leave it in the dyes.
Here are my left overs from my dyeing. I have great plans for even my paper towels and my shells:
I’m going to save the eggshells as we make egg salad sandwiches (yummy!) in a baggy and make this craft: Eggshell Pictures from Make and Takes
I’m going to modify this craft and use my dyed paper towels and use up my dye creating “paper towel” butterflies.

These are great ideas!
This is an awesome idea!! I love how they would all be so unique!!
I LOVE your tape idea, what fun! And thanks for linking to my crushed egg shell activity! Happy Easter!
Great ideas! I knew there was some reason I was late in dying eggs! =)
We used this technique tonight!! Did they ever turn out cool:-) Thanks for sharing!
How cool is that! I am an elementary school teacher turned mommy and I can’t believe I have never heard of using tape! I am going to have to remember this when my son gets old enough to die eggs! Thanks for the tip and for the link to the art project using the shells!
BTW Thanks for visiting my blog! I hadn’t come across yours yet. I will be sure to follow!!
