Do you only get a 30 minute lunch at work? Do you use that as an excuse to not use your lunch time to get active?

Well if you missed your morning workout or if you want to get some extra activity in then consider taking a walking lunch.

What’s A Walking Lunch?

Basically the idea is you grab a small meal that you can walk with. Think of something that is healthy, nutrient rich and you can nibble on as you go. Even with a slow walk you are still getting in more activity than if you are sitting at your desk and munching away.

How I Enjoy a Walking Lunch

One of my favorite walking lunches is fresh sliced deli meat. I work right next to a grocery store so I grab a 1/4 lb of freshly cut deli meat and a piece of fruit. I then start walking around the shopping center. I may go into a local store but I try to keep a bounce in my step and keep moving. In my exercise journal I will count this as a 30 minutes of slow walking. But that equals 100 calories burned!

More Meal Ideas:

Some other meals that I like to nibble on on my walks are:

  • Protein bars
  • Protein shakes
  • Frozen yogurt with nuts and fruit
  • Cheese stick and deli meat
  • Hard boiled egg and a piece of fruit
Any ideas on things you could walk and eat?

Don’t Forget Comfy Shoes

If you wear dress shoes to work that would be uncomfortable to walk in for 30 minutes then make sure to have a pair of tennis shoes in your car.

Do you think you might try taking your lunch for a walk on your next lunch break?
