As I’m building my toolbox for success I decided I need to make this list. A list of things to do instead of snacking. Hopefully it will grow larger than 10 but let’s just start with that.
- Do quick strength training routine
- Take a walk
- Read a book to my boys
- Go outside and play with the boys
- Write a blog post about weight loss/being healthy
- Read a book or your google reader
- Drink a glass of water
- Paint my fingernails and toes
- Play a game on Android tab
- Write out recipes and organize them
I could keep going but I wanted to share the start of my list and challenge you to make one for yourself. If it helps you may want to put this on your fridge to look at each time you open the door.
Another suggestion that I thought was fun was to make a chart and put a sticker on the chart each time you don’t end up snacking. I’m considering doing this and have a set reward for when I fill up the chart. Maybe something like a new nail polish or lipstick. Or maybe a new kindle book.
I am excited to share this week I have lost a couple pounds so hopefully my plateau is over. We will see!
What do you do when the munchies strike?

I drink herbal tea.
I drink herbal tea also, which makes me feels all righteous since it’s a great way to make sure I’m getting enough water!
I also look at old pictures, and more shockingly, newer ones (yeesh!) and ask myself if I’m *really* hungry or just bored. Most of the time it’s just boredom. Funnily enough, I also cook. And bake. I find by the time I’m done, the simple act of cooking is enough for me to take a smaller portion.
*side note, I’ve came from #commenthour 🙂
I should do the picture thing, but I don’t see that much difference yet.
Congrats on getting over the plateau! And good tips.
I knit or crochet!! I’ve found that I mindlessly snack the most while Jason and I watch movies or TV in the evening after the boys go to bed. So the daytime stuff, like read/play with the kids or something that requires thought like reading my own book / project isn’t really an option. So I find knitting or crochet projects that I can work on. It keeps my hands too busy to snack (I don’t want to put my work down and lose my place or drop a stitch) and it makes me want to keep my hands clean (no popcorn or chip oils on my projects!) That’s my #1 no-snacking trick!!
I thought about that too Nicole. I was torn on it though cause I’m afraid I won’t finish the project. But I may try this.
I like the Tea idea! Snacking is so hard not to do, have you tried taking a big piece of paper and writing,
“Am I really hungry or am i just board?”
And post it around your kitchen? I put mine in my fridge. Mostly because my husband would eat us out of house and home… he ALWAYS thinks he’s hungry… always.
Haha, that’s hilarious! But a great idea. I need the reminder.
