Social Media & Social Android Apps

Let’s just admit it social media is a part of our lives even if we are a casual internet browser or a social media guru. We are constantly checking in with our friends and updating our status. One way to keep up with your updates and your friends updates is having the right tools on your phone and tablets! Here are a couple of my favorites.

Tweetdeck

TweetDeck

Tweetdeck is my favorite social media app on my tablet and phone. I’ve tried the others but I love then columns and easy use of multiple accounts. But I will admit that sometimes it can be a little buggy on start-up. So if this bothers you or if you have more than your fair share of bugginess you may want to check out the next app. If you want to learn more about TweetDeck in general check out the Basics of TweetDeck.

Tweetcaster

Tweetcaster is my second option for a twitter app. I found it worked really well, I just wish I had more control of columns. I had this on my tablet when I went to a conference and I just remember it was really hard to keep up with the hashtag. Which is very important for me.

I found this app worked really well and didn’t seem to act buggy on my phone or tablet.

Google+ (not available on Tablet)

Have I mentioned that I’m a Google+ addict? I am very impressed with the first release of the Google+ App. I do wish it worked on my tablet though. With this app you can upload pictures straight to your unlimited uploads on Google+. You can also stay caught up with your notifications.

GetGlue

Have you heard about GetGlue? If not I highly recommend checking it out. It’s a movie, music, book and product social media site. Share what items you like or what are your favorites. But also “check in” what you are doing right now. Are you watching a movie, check in! Are you reading a book, check in! Also get recommendations from your likes and favorites!

Oh and did I mention the stickers? Once you get enough digital stickers you can ask them to send you the real deal! I’ve already gotten one set and it was awesome!

Just in Time for School: Top Reading & Writing Android Apps

This post could possibly be part two of Apps for Bloggers, but I know not everyone is a blogger. So I wanted to share these great reading and writing apps.

As a mom I had pretty much given up on reading a book that wasn’t filled with pictures. That was until I got my Android Phone! Now that I have my book in my purse at all times I can catch up on my reading any time I have a few minutes!

Kindle

If you don’t have kindle on your phone and tab you need to download it right now! I have tried some of the other readers but Kindle really is the best. Plus you can get hundreds of free books. I have a huge list of books to read and I think I only have about 4 or 5 books I’ve actually bought. Make sure and check out the promotional section every so often and find more free books.

Bible (YouVersion)

This has been the best Bible app I have ever found and I love it. I had found YouVersion before I found this app. I loved the idea of the reading plans, but jumping online everytime to do my reading was just not going to happen. Then I stumbled upon this app and I was in love.

I use the reading plans for when I’m not doing a Bible study at church to do my daily readings. It is nice that they have a “catch me up” feature because sometimes my boys beat me on waking up in the morning and I miss my reading time.

If you want to read your favorite version while away from a wifi connection you will want to download it in the settings.

Aldiko Book Reader

One thing I recommend, especially if you are a blogger is a PDF reader.

This is a little bit of a cheat. I don’t use this app, I use one that looks very similar. The one I use came with my tab, LumiRead, but doesn’t seem to be available on the market.

I did play around with this reader and it is very similar to the one I use. One reason I like both of these better than the Adobe PDF Reader is that it actually saves the spot you stopped reading. Adobe PDF Reader is hard to use with a eBook more than a few pages long. Either you have to read the book all the way through or memorize the page that you stopped on to continue.

You do have to go into your folders to upload your PDFs, mine were in my download folder. So you may need a little tech knowledge to set it up.

Google Docs

I’m a huge Google fan and have been using Google Docs for years. I love being able to access my documents anywhere. Now with the Google Docs app I can literally access my documents anywhere!

You can use Google Docs for Word Documents, Spreadsheets, Forms, Presentations and more! You can use the app to create documents or read them.  This is great as a blogger if you want to write your posts in Google Docs and then copy paste them into your blog when you are done.

Also if you are doing a collaborative project then Google Docs is the tool for you. You can share your document with anyone or even make it public if you wish. You can edit it the same time as others or individually make changes.

Note Everything

I have mentioned how I love ColorNote, but when I need to write long notes I open up Note Everything. You can also take voice notes or paint a note! What’s nice is this app works well with google docs so if you need to transfer something you can just export it to google docs.

I’ve used Note Everything for taking notes at conferences, at church, while reading an eBook and for writing blog posts when I wasn’t near a wifi connection.

Conclusion

Do you read or write on your phone or tablet? Do you find the convenience of having your book or writing with at all times helpful?

4 Android Apps to Help Bloggers

I have a full home screen dedicated to blogging on my tablet. This is where I keep some of my organization apps, but also a few specific apps I use just for blogging.

WordPress

WordPress has a very basic app that you can use to see your comments, comment back, add or edit posts, and add or edit pages. What’s nice is you can have multiple blogs too.

This is a must-have app if you are blogging on WordPress. If you find yourself stuck at a doctors office or waiting in the car for your kids to be let out of school. You can take some time to write or edit your posts.

NewsRob

One thing I always recommend for a new or experienced blogger is to make sure and setup their Google Reader. This is a way to keep up to date on blogging trends, learn more from professional bloggers, and to keep up with your blogging tribe.

I like Newsrob the best for keeping up with my reader because it will download the feeds onto your device so you don’t have to have an internet connection to read blogs. I love being able to read blogs while my husband is driving!

Another nice feature is when you do have an internet connection and you run into a feed that is only a excerpt then you can click a button you can switch web mode and see the full article.

Thinking Space

When you are either just brainstorming for your blog in general or if you are brainstorming for a specific post then you will enjoy Thinking Space. If you haven’t tried mind mapping for blogging I highly recommend trying it.

How do you start? Find your most popular post and write the title in the center circle. Now start writing ideas on how to go into more details about the post, write down questions you had in your comments, and write ideas you have that for list posts you might be able to make from the post. As you keep writing these ideas around the main circle look and see if you can break off and add more than just one post from a question or an idea. You may be surprised at how many ideas you can get from just one post.

Actually just as I’m writing this post I’m realizing I can break off more ideas for blogging. One example being “How mind mapping can give you 50 ideas!”

ColorNote

You may have seen this app in the organizational apps post, but today I wanted to talk about it again and share how I specifically use it for blogging. This is my favorite blogging idea app! This app has been the quickest and easiest ways for me to “jot” down my ideas.

How to:

I have a note pinned to my blogging home screen that is a checklist. When I come up with an idea for a post I quickly open this note and add new item with my idea on it. This is really great when I’m brainstorming headline ideas while at the doctor’s office also. When I get a chance to sit down to my computer and enter the headlines and ideas into my computer I cross them off my list.

Conclusion

Do you have a favorite app as a blogger? Do you use your phone or a tablet for blogging?
