A Craft a Day: E is for Eggs

I was torn this week, did I want to do eggs or elephants. I decided to go with eggs because there were so many great egg crafts but no elephant crafts. If you know any good elephant crafts please send them my way for the next time we do E.

A Craft a Day gives you five activities that you can enjoy with your kids, one for each day of the week. Most of these activities work well for preschoolers, but you may be able to adapt them for your toddler. I will post the crafts on Saturdays so you can use the weekend to get any supplies that you may need. We are making our way through the alphabet this year so if you missed a you can find it here.

Are you Supermom?

Now I’m not supermom and I don’t expect you to be either. We don’t always get to each activity, sometimes life is just too busy. Hopefully you may try one or two of these activities with me and my kids! You don’t have to do every single one. You don’t have to be doing preschool with your child. I just hope to give you a resource for some great fun with your kids!

The Crafts:

Chickie Eggs – These were cute and almost too easy. Zane loved putting them together I don’t know how his ended up with a frowny face but it was pretty funny. (Make sure and keep the shells for the other projects.)

Earth Mosaics – This was a great project for bible day. The boys colored pictures in the morning and we talked about how God made the heavens and the earth. Then in the afternoon we made our earth project. This is definitely a keepsake project.

More Mosaics – You can do this project in addition to the Earth Mosaic project or if you don’t have or want to deal with clay you do this project instead.
Egg Geodes – We tried this science experiment but for us it failed. If you have any luck getting the crystals to grow please let me know!!
Egg Planters – We had some extra grass seed in our garage and I hope the grass will grow in time for the letter G! Or maybe I hope to keep the grass alive for the letter G.

Supplies: eggs, carrots, black sesame seeds or food markers or sprinkles, clay, egg shells, food color, vinegar, Elmer’s Glue, alum, paint brush, glass or plastic container, hot water, grass seed, potting soil, paint

A Craft a Day: D is for Dinosaurs

This week is all about dinosaurs and I found way too many fun ideas!! My list was overflowing with great crafts!

The Crafts:

Dinosaur Bone Cookies – I love how Stacie relabeled all the ingredients to make them dino related! Plus these are very yummy treats! I halved the recipe to stop from being the one to eat them all. Both boys helped making these.

Color Science: Drip Drop Dinosaurs – I’ve been wanting to do this project for a while, but decided to pull it out today. We drew dinosaurs but you could actually draw anything.

Dinosaur Dig – I actually made these “egg” then I buried them in a bucket of dirt. I actually did this with Zane when he was younger too. It was so fun we had to do it again
Pipe Cleaner Dinos – I wasn’t sure if Zane could do these but I wanted to challenge him to try.
Dinosaur Stomp – I saw these and fell in love! We had to do them. I knew both boys would love running around in them, who cares if I needed to buy 4 boxes of tissues!

Supplies: cocoa, sugar,butter, milk, food color, peanut butter, oats, Elmer’s glue, salt, card stock, pipe cleaners, bucket, dirt, sand, flour, salt, water, plastic dinos, tissue boxes, duct tape, paint, kitchen sponge

A Craft a Day: C is for Colors

Welcome to a Craft a Day. Is this your first time joining us? This week is proof that I’m not supermom, life got in the way and we had to cut our lessons short. This happens sometimes, so don’t beat yourself up if you planned on joining us and didn’t get to. Just dive right back in and enjoy your kids!

The Crafts:

Coloring Toast – Both of my boys loved this project. Be careful they don’t jab the toast with the brush, good way to teach them to be gentle. We actually made grilled cheese with our bread.

Painting with Tissue Paper – I was going to combine this with a picture of Joseph so Zane could make his coat of many colors.
Color Science – You can teach your kids about colors and have them learn a little about cause and effect.
Color Rice – Zane loved making the rainbow rice! We worked on learning how to mix colors to make new colors. We will be using this rice for another project in the coming weeks.

Paper Color Wheels – This is also a great project to start helping your preschooler with scissor skills (and it won’t have to be perfectly accurate.

Supplies: bread, milk, food color, ice tray (optional), tissue paper, spray bottle, cardstock, shallow bowl, rice, food color,rubbing alcohol, sandwich bags, kid safe scissors, old newspapers, paper plate, glue

The Crafts:

Letter of the week bee – After posting this link I realized I forgot to have Zane put wings on his B, oops. We didn’t paint the letter and I used craft felt for the stripes.
Butterfly Bounty – This is an awesome snack to have your little one help you make. Zane loved making these and Zarek loved eating them!

Book Worms – Or maybe centipedes? This was a little harder for Zane, but with help he did great.

Bug Jars – This is lots of fun for all ages, but also reminded how much I hat bugs. Zane also hates to touch bugs too. LOL
Rock bugs – While playing out in the garden finding bugs, pocket a few rocks that will work for bug creating. This is a great way to get through some extra craft supplies also.

Supplies: Craft Paper, Craft Felt, Pipe Cleaner, Glue, Glitter Glue or Paint, Googly Eyes, Snack Mix, Snack Bags, Clothes Pin, Yarn, Craft Stick, Permanent Marker, Jar, Rocks, Misc Craft Supplies

A Craft a Day: A is for Apple

Welcome back to a new edition of A Craft A Day!

The Crafts:

Apple Smiles – Apple smiles are a fun and easy snack to create with your preschooler.

Armor of God – For this project we printed out each sheet. I created a head and legs from construction paper. Zane colored the sheets, put a face on the head and helped me cut out the shield. I cut out the rest of the pieces and had him tape them all together. This was tons of fun.
Apple Science – I cut open an apple and we counted the carpels and seed together. Every apple has 5 carpels and each carpel should have 2 seeds.
Apple Prints – After counting I put some paint on a plant and let both boys use the apples as stamps. Zane just loved swirling the paint.

Awesome Apple – I know another color and cut worksheet. But what was fun was we were just teaching Zane about Super Heroes and this happen to be the activity I planned for the day.

Supplies: Apples, Peanut Butter, Mini Marshmallows, Scissors, Crayons or Pens, Acrylic Paint or Finger Paint, Craft Paper

A Craft A Day: Coming Back Soon

At the end of last year I was doing one of my favorite little series, A Craft A Day. But life got busy, as it usually does around Christmas, and the series had to be put aside. But I’m bringing it back!

A Craft a Day gives you five activities that you can enjoy with your kids, one for each day of the week. Some weeks may have a theme and some may not but either way we are going to have some fun together. Most of these activities work well for preschoolers, but you may be able to adapt them for your toddler.

I will post them on Saturdays so you can use the weekend to get any supplies that you may need.

ABCs

I’m working on a letter based curriculum with Zane, so each week will be based on a letter of the alphabet.

Week one will be all about the letter A. We will be doing lots of Apple activities. Week two will be the letter B and we will be doing butterflies and bug activities! And we will go all the way through the alphabet.

Subject of the Day

Zane and I will also be focusing on a subject each day.

Monday: Kitchen Day
Tuesday: Bible Day
Wednesday: Science Day
Thursday: Art Day
Friday: Extra Credit

You don’t have to worry about subjects but I figure when you see the activities you may see a pattern.
