I saw a great Jellyfish activity on No time for Flashcards. When I saw it I knew I could instantly use an old coffee filter craft trick to make it even more fun!
Step 1: Color the coffee filter. Notice the mat underneath, the pens will bleed through. You can do it on newspaper also.
Step 2: Spray the coffee filter with water. Watch the colors transform!
Step 3: Let your coffee filter dry in the sun!
Step 4: Fold your filter in half
Step 5: Cut out strips from tissue paper. Zaney really wanted red.
Step 6: Use glue or my favorite glue dots to paste the tissue paper strips to the back of the Jellyfish.
Step 7: Place two googly eyes on Jellyfish and enjoy!
This is such an easy craft you can do it with your toddlers. As you can see Zarek joined us in this activity and he loved it! If your little one is not good with scissors just cut the strips of tissue paper beforehand.
Of course I had to be all about ice cream, especially with summer finally choosing to grace us with it’s presence in Oregon. But summer and playing outside is distracting us from our crafts, so we only did half of them this week. That’s okay we still had fun!
If you are new to A Craft a Day
A Craft a Day gives you five activities that you can enjoy with your kids, one for each day of the week. Most of these activities work well for preschoolers, but you may be able to adapt them for your toddler.
I will post the crafts on Saturdays so you can use the weekend to get any supplies that you may need. We are making our way through the alphabet this year so if you missed a letter you can find it here.
The Crafts:
Homemade Ice Cream In Baggies – Loved doing this! What a great snack to make! Though I recommend with young kids have a helper on hand. Neither boy was good at shaking so I got pretty cold keeping both bags going. LOL
I Spy Bottle – Do you remember the rainbow rice? Well here we are using it for an I activity. (I know not ice cream related, but oh well.)
Ice Cube Art – Since the weather finally turned warm in Oregon I decided this was the perfect time to try out ice cube water colors. I’ve seen it other places besides the ice cream cone template here, but thought this was just perfect!
Puffy Ice Cream Cones – I wanted to do this so much, but with summer comes many other fun things to do. I will put it back in my idea drawer and use it again.
Supplies: sugar, half and half, vanilla, coarse salt, ice, gallon ziploc, quart ziploc, all kinds of small items, rainbow rice, glue, camera, hole punch, ribbon or binder ring, ice cream tray, food coloring, popsicle sticks, glue, shaving cream, cream of tartar, flour, salt, oil, cocoa powder, mint extract, strawberry koolaid, vanilla, food color, plastic containers, Elmer’s Glue, printed labels, ice cream scoop
Are you Supermom?
Now I’m not supermom and I don’t expect you to be either. We don’t always get to each activity, sometimes life is just too busy. Hopefully you may try one or two of these activities with me and my kids! You don’t have to do every single one. You don’t have to be doing preschool with your child. I just hope to give you a resource for some great fun with your kids!

Remember a few weeks back we made Rainbow Rice! That was a great project and the boys loved the outcome! They have been staring at the bag of rice for weeks asking me to play with it, but I kept telling them I have a plan!
My plan? An I spy bottle! Inspired by Pink & Green Mama, I knew I was going to have to do this project.
Step 1: Find lots of little toys and miscellaneous items that will fit inside your bottle. Take a photo and print it.
( I wish we had found more, but we obviously are more baby proofed than I realized LOL)
Step 2: Insert your items into your bottle.
Step 3: Add your rainbow rice! (I promise the boys were really having fun, just no smiles for pictures)
Step 4: Add a good glob of glue around the threads of the bottle and close lid tightly.
Step 5: Shake and explore.
I really like games like these because sometimes Zane needs something to help him sit and relax. He loves I spy books and just staring at the pictures.
Have you made an I spy bottle for your kids or just for fun before? What do you think about making mini versions of this for Christmas stocking stuffers.
This week we didn’t do a lot of actual crafts as just learned. I found some really neat activities so I thought I would share them with you.

The Crafts:
Skeletons Snacks – I saw these and thought they were great! I didn’t put them on cupcakes, we just put them on plates.
My Body Felt Board – If your little one is good at cutting you can have them cut the pieces out on this project, but with Zane I just cut them and showed them how they worked. He loved learning about bones in his body.
Layers of the Body -I was planning on making these layers with elmer’s glue and tissue paper, but again I wasn’t supermom so we didn’t make it to this project.
With & Without Bones – Since Zane was so intrigued by having bones I thought this would be a great activity to explore it more. Especially since he asked “Why do we have bones?”
Homemade_Food_Pyramid – This was a great activity and I was surprised at how quickly Zane picked up that we eat sweets very rarely and we should eat lots of fruits and veggies. This was also great to work on his cutting skills. You can find an example of the new food pyramid here.
Supplies: marshmallow, food pens or food color and toothpick, white chocolate covered pretzels, toothpick or lollipop stick, felt and/or cardboard and/or craft foam, scissors, glue, tissue paper, saran wrap, large precut triangle marked like the food pyramid, magazine and/or shopping ads, scissors, glue, gloves, flour, popsicle sticks

This week is all about dinosaurs and I found way too many fun ideas!! My list was overflowing with great crafts!

The Crafts:
Growing a Garden Healthy Snack – You probably don’t know but I love bunnies, we actually have a pet rabbit who lives upstairs with us. When I saw this snack I instantly grabbed up the link to use for this weeks snack.
Terrific Terrariums – I got everything we needed, which took a bit because I wanted to find the perfect container. I finally bought one at Ikea and settled with glass since I couldn’t find anything clear plastic. As you can see this project ended up as a big FAIL for me.
DIY Veggie Garden Sensory Box – I loved this idea as soon as I saw it. Zarek is a very touchy feely child, I can tell by the fact he loves smearing anything and everything on walls and tables. I thought he would love this project and he really did!
Bean Sprout Science – Another example of not being supermom, we didn’t get a chance to do this activity, but we may try it another day.
Foam Caterpillar – These were tons of fun, I only have pictures of the after product since our neighbor girl came over to do this craft with us and I’m very respectful of photographing others children. But let’s say it was tons of fun, but way to quick!
Supplies: Bunny Crackers, Grapes, Cheese, Chocolate Chips, Flower Cookie Cutter (or you can freehand it), wide clear container, pebbles, activated carbon (pet store), soil, stones, moss, small plants, cookie sheet or small flat container, paper towels, beans, tub, black beans, printable garden tags, egg carton, pipe cleaners, paint, paint brushes, garden toys, practice foam golf balls, craft foam, skewer, permanent marker, wire

I have considered doing a sensory box for the boys before. With the weather not warming up in Oregon I decided this is the best time. I found this great DIY sensory box that fit this weeks theme of gardening. Since the boys have been having fun playing in the dirt of late, boys will be boys, I thought that this would be perfect.
